From 14 to 17 July 2025, the Institute of Information Technology in Civil Engineering (IIC) – Hanoi University of Civil Engineering delivered a BIM Management (BIM Manager) course for IBST Construction Investment and Technology JSC. The 16-hour course was organised in four sessions at the company's head office in Hanoi.
The course aimed to equip the company's technical staff to organise, manage and control BIM information at project level, from planning through to multi-discipline model coordination.

The programme was based on the syllabus of the Institute's BIM Manager course, comprising two theory sessions and two practical sessions.
Training programme content
Session 1. BIM overview
- An introduction to BIM and its terminology.
- The uses of BIM.
- The parties involved in applying BIM on a project.
- Benefits and challenges of BIM for an organisation.
- BIM environments, platforms and tools.
- Legal documents, standards and implementation guidance, presented in line with the BIM regulations in Vietnam.
- Preparing a BIM Execution Plan (BEP) for the project.
Session 2. Common data environment and model requirements
Applying Autodesk Construction Cloud (Docs, Build) to project data management:
- Storing project data and managing members.
- Submitting and approving 3D models and 2D drawings.
- Managing RFIs and construction progress.
- Exporting reports.
- Using Autodesk Viewer and Drive to store and navigate models.
Specific requirements for the information model by level of development (LOD):
- Reviewing the architectural model.
- Reviewing the structural model.
- Reviewing the MEP, plumbing and fire protection models.
- Checking drawings and quantities in the BIM model.
Session 3. Organising the BIM model (practice)
- Checking how project files are split: the overall file, files per building block, files per discipline.
- Team working with worksets.
- Checking coordinates and project orientation: survey coordinates and true north.
- Checking naming and colour conventions.
Session 4. Coordination and clash resolution (practice)
- The clash matrix.
- The 3D coordination process.
- Setting up the federated model.
- Managing search sets.
- Detecting and resolving clashes and exporting reports.
Training methodology
The programme moves from theory to practice. The first two sessions provide the foundations: the legal framework, implementation planning, the common data environment and model requirements. The last two focus on hands-on checking of model organisation and multi-discipline coordination, so that participants can apply what they have learned directly to the company's BIM management work.
