From 24 May to 7 June 2026, the Institute of Information Technology in Civil Engineering (IIC) – Hanoi University of Civil Engineering delivered a BIM Management – BIM Manager course for managers and engineers of the Ministry of Defence Housing and Urban Development Investment Corporation (MHDI). The 16-hour course combined online sessions via Zoom with in-person sessions at the corporation's head office, 68 Nguyen Co Thach, My Dinh I Urban Area, Tu Liem Ward, Hanoi.

As a developer of housing and urban projects, MHDI needs staff who can manage building information from the client's side: setting BIM requirements for consultants and contractors, controlling project data and assessing the models handed over. The blended format allowed theory to be delivered flexibly over Zoom, while hands-on topics were taught in person in the training hall.

Training programme content

The programme was based on the Institute's BIM Manager course and divided into four parts:

  1. BIM overview and execution planning. Concepts, terminology and BIM uses; the parties involved; benefits and challenges for organisations; BIM environments, platforms and tools; legal documents, standards and guidance in Vietnam; preparing a BIM execution plan for a project.
  2. Common data environment and model requirements. Managing project data on Autodesk Construction Cloud (Docs, Build): storage, member management, submission and approval of 3D models and 2D drawings, RFIs, construction progress and reporting; viewing models in Autodesk Viewer and Drive. LOD requirements and assessment of architectural, structural, MEP, plumbing and fire protection models; checking drawings and quantities.
  3. Organising the BIM model (hands-on). Checking how the overall, building-block and discipline files are split; team working with worksets; checking survey coordinates and true north; checking naming and colour conventions.
  4. Coordination and clash resolution (hands-on). The clash matrix, the 3D coordination process, building the coordination model, managing Search Sets, detecting and resolving clashes and exporting reports.

Checking models from the client's perspective

In the two hands-on parts, lecturers guided participants through checking models handed over by consultants against the criteria a client needs to understand. Before federating disciplines, participants checked whether the levels and grids in Revit were consistent across the architectural, structural and MEP files — a common reason models fail to align when combined. At the clash resolution stage, participants used sections and 3D sections in Revit to isolate and inspect each clash found in Navisworks and to issue specific change requests to the discipline concerned.

The Institute sincerely thanks the leadership of the Ministry of Defence Housing and Urban Development Investment Corporation for choosing it as its training partner.
