The Institute of Information Technology in Civil Engineering (IIC) – Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, in cooperation with THACONS General Construction Contractor JSC, has organised a BIM Manager training course for the Company's engineers, technical staff and project management personnel.
Course format
The course was held at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering. Each participant was assigned a computer in the University's practice laboratory, allowing theory and hands-on model work to be combined within the same session.
Training programme content
The programme was based on the framework of the Institute's BIM Manager course and adapted to the work of a general contractor. The content focused on the tasks of a BIM manager on actual projects:
- BIM execution planning. Preparing and reviewing the BIM Execution Plan (BEP), including objectives, the role of each party, level of detail and the model delivery schedule.
- Project information management. Organising a Common Data Environment (CDE) with naming conventions, permissions and document approval procedures.
- Multi-discipline model coordination. Federating architectural, structural and MEP models, including models received in IFC format from parties using other software; organising coordination meetings and tracking clashes until they are resolved.
- Data quality control. Verifying models against the required LOD and LOI before each handover.
- Optimising the coordination process. Shortening the exchange cycle between designers, the general contractor and subcontractors through a unified process.
Teaching staff
The course was taught by specialists who are directly engaged in training and implementing BIM on projects. In addition to current BIM standards, participants were presented with experience from a number of large-scale projects across Vietnam, including common difficulties in applying BIM on construction sites and approaches to take when the parties have not yet agreed on a common process.
For a general contractor, the BIM manager serves as the link between the design model and construction activities on site.
Cooperation between the University, the Institute and industry
The course is the result of cooperation between Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, the Institute of Information Technology in Civil Engineering and THACONS General Construction Contractor JSC in developing a highly skilled workforce. This cooperation supports the application of BIM and digital transformation, and strengthens capability in managing, directing and delivering construction projects to modern standards.
Upon completion of the course, participants receive the Institute's BIM Manager certificate. General contractors commonly include this type of certificate in their documentation in order to demonstrate BIM capability when tendering.
The Institute of Information Technology in Civil Engineering sincerely thanks THACONS General Construction Contractor JSC for its confidence in selecting the Institute as its training provider.
