From 14 to 28 April 2026, the Institute of Information Technology in Civil Engineering (IIC) – Hanoi University of Civil Engineering delivered a BIM Management – BIM Manager course for managers and engineers of CS579 Joint Stock Company. The 16-hour course was taught online via Zoom.

The course aimed to build a team at the company that understands the full BIM management process on a project: planning, organising the common data environment, setting requirements and assessing models, coordinating disciplines and resolving clashes. The last two parts of the programme were designed as hands-on sessions so that participants could work directly on models.

Training programme content

The syllabus was based on the Institute's BIM Manager course and comprised four parts.

Part 1 – BIM overview and execution planning

  • BIM overview, terminology and the main uses of BIM.
  • The parties involved in applying BIM on a project; benefits and challenges for organisations.
  • BIM environments, platforms and tools.
  • Legal documents, standards and guidance for BIM implementation in Vietnam.
  • Preparing a BIM execution plan for a project.

Part 2 – Common data environment and model requirements

  • Using Autodesk Construction Cloud (Docs, Build) to manage project data: storage, member management, submission and approval of 3D models and 2D drawings, RFIs and construction progress, reporting.
  • Using Autodesk Viewer and Drive to store and navigate models.
  • Level of development (LOD) requirements and assessment of architectural, structural, MEP, plumbing and fire protection models; checking drawings and quantities in BIM.

Part 3 – Organising the BIM model (hands-on)

  • Checking how project files are split: the overall file, files for each building block and files for each discipline.
  • Team working with worksets.
  • Checking the coordinate system: survey coordinates and true north of the building.
  • Checking naming and colour conventions.

Part 4 – Coordination and clash resolution (hands-on)

  • The clash matrix and the 3D coordination process.
  • Building the coordination model and managing Search Sets.
  • Detecting and resolving clashes and exporting reports.

Hands-on model checking

In the hands-on sessions, lecturers guided participants through reviewing models from a BIM manager's perspective. Each discipline's naming, line styles and colours were compared with the project template, following the approach to choosing and checking discipline-specific Revit templates. To spot elements that break the conventions quickly, participants used tools for hiding elements and managing view display in Revit, such as Visibility/Graphics, view templates and colour-based filters. Models that passed were then federated for clash detection in Navisworks.

The Institute sincerely thanks CS579 Joint Stock Company for choosing it as its training partner.
