From 20 May to 22 June 2025, the Institute of Information Technology in Civil Engineering (IIC) – Hanoi University of Civil Engineering organised a Revit Architecture training course for GIZA Vietnam Design and Construction JSC. The 30-hour course was delivered to the company's architects and design engineers.
The course followed the BIM Management – BIM Manager course that the Institute delivered to the company in May 2025. Whereas the earlier course focused on the capacity of managers to plan and control BIM, the Revit Architecture course was intended for the staff who directly build the model and prepare the design documents.
Course details
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Course | Revit Architecture |
| Client | GIZA Vietnam Design and Construction JSC |
| Duration | 30 hours |
| Dates | 20 May 2025 to 22 June 2025 |
| Venue | 4th floor, Building N01 – T5, Diplomatic Corps Area, Xuan Tao Ward, Bac Tu Liem District, Hanoi |
The programme was structured according to the sequence in which an architectural document set is prepared in Revit: modelling the framework and the architectural elements, building the family library, detailing, and then producing schedules and drawings. Its content was derived from the Institute's Revit Architecture course programme and reorganised to fit 30 hours.
Training programme content
Part 1. Basic setup
- A general introduction to BIM technology and the Revit software, including a clarification of the difference between BIM and Revit.
- Setting file paths, becoming familiar with the software interface and setting keyboard shortcuts.
- Creating grids and levels.
- Rotating the project orientation.
Part 2. Modelling structural elements
- Modelling structural columns, beams, floors and pile caps.
- Managing visibility to ensure that the structural model does not obscure the architecture during work.
Part 3. Modelling architectural elements
- Masonry walls and curtain walls.
- Ground slabs and entrance steps.
- Stairs and railings.
- Plasterboard ceilings and roofs.
Part 4. Development of the family library
This part enables the GIZA team to develop its own component library for projects, rather than relying on ready-made components. Participants were introduced to the concept of a Revit family and to the massing tools through illustrative examples, and then practised creating:
- Furniture families.
- Architectural column families.
- Door and window families.
- Mouldings and trims for the project.
Part 5. Detailing
- Managing materials, line weights and the project browser.
- Plan, elevation and section details.
- Toilet and stair details.
- Managing drafting views.
- Managing legends: floor build-ups and general notes.
Part 6. Schedules, title blocks and visualisation
- Schedules for doors, rooms, floor tiles, concrete and the drawing list.
- Creating title blocks and printing.
- Managing the project template.
- Exporting the project to PDF and DWG.
- Visualising the building with Enscape for Revit.
Significance of the course
The common feature of the six parts is that the entire document set is produced from a single model. When an architect modifies a wall, the plans, sections, schedules and renderings are all updated accordingly. For this reason, the course devoted considerable time to detailing and to the project template. When set up correctly from the outset, these can be reused by the GIZA team on subsequent projects.
The Institute of Information Technology in Civil Engineering sincerely thanks GIZA Vietnam Design and Construction JSC for once again selecting the Institute for its second training course of the year.
Companies wishing to arrange Revit training for their design teams are kindly invited to contact the Institute of Information Technology in Civil Engineering at +84 989 427 809 or +84 914 388 841. The Institute will propose a course duration and practical content suited to the type of buildings the company designs.
