ROLE AT THE INSTITUTE

Teaching Revit MEP from the site shop drawing back

An MEP model is only worth something if the pipes, ducts and trays built from it actually fit. Mr Thanh Binh teaches Revit MEP from that point.

  • Teaches the Revit MEP course at the Institute.
  • Currently on the Long Thanh International Airport project — one of Vietnam’s most important infrastructure developments.
  • Experience on both sides — contractors (Ricons, Searefico) and a developer (Novaland), so he knows how MEP drawings get approved and installed.
  • Project-based learning — each topic comes with a site situation so students see how the software is used on real work.

CAREER

Over ten years of MEP on major projects

From mechanical engineer to BIM/MEP lead, across general contractors, MEP contractors and a developer.

General contractor — Ricons

MEP and BIM work for a major general contractor.

MEP contractors — Searefico and First Green Engineering

MEP shop drawings, BIM coordination and clash detection between systems.

Developer — Novaland

MEP and BIM work on the client side, for a property developer.

BIM/MEP Leader — Long Thanh International Airport (current)

BIM and MEP work on the international airport now under construction.

WHAT HE TEACHES

The parts he covers in most depth

  • Modelling MEP systems in Revit — plumbing, HVAC, electrical and fire protection, built as systems so they can be calculated and scheduled.
  • MEP shop drawings — from model to installation drawings with dimensions, levels and support details the site team can use.
  • Coordination and clash detection — linking architectural and structural models, running Navisworks and resolving clashes before work reaches site.
  • Documents and schedules — quantity schedules, symbols, annotation and sheet sets issued straight from the model.

TOOLS

Software he uses

  • Revit MEP — MEP modelling and documentation.
  • Navisworks — model coordination and clash detection.
  • AutoCAD — two-dimensional drawings and shop drawings exchanged with contractors.

EXPERTISE

Building types delivered

A mechanical engineer whose MEP experience spans seven building types.

  • Airports — Long Thanh International Airport
