ROLE AT THE INSTITUTE

Teaching Revit MEP from both sides: site and BIM office

An MEP system that looks good in the model will not necessarily fit on site. Five years of site supervision gave him that eye before he moved into BIM.

  • Training specialist for the Revit MEP course at the Institute — five years teaching BIM to individuals and companies.
  • Raised on site supervision — two years on the Thai Binh 1 thermal power plant with Lilama 69-1, three years supervising MEP works on Hanoi high-rises with Coninco PMI.
  • Eight years as a BIM engineer at PC ONE — BIM coordinator or specialist on 15 projects and BIM manager on 4, many of them grade-1 buildings such as Metropolis Lieu Giai, GEM Riverside and Ruby Ha Long.
  • Now deputy general director of PC ONE JSC — seeing the MEP BIM process from the executive’s chair, not only the modeller’s.

CAREER

From MEP site supervisor to deputy general director

Three stages: standing on site, building and coordinating models, then running a BIM business.

Site supervision — Lilama 69-1, then Coninco PMI

Two years as a site engineer on the Thai Binh 1 thermal power plant; three years supervising MEP works on the 60 Nguyen Duc Canh, My Dinh Pearl and Green Pearl 378 Minh Khai projects.

MEP BIM engineer — PC ONE JSC

Eight years managing and delivering BIM projects: BIM coordinator or specialist on 15 projects including Metropolis Lieu Giai, GEM Riverside, Vega City and Vihacomplex 107 Nguyen Tuan; BIM manager on 4 projects including HacomMall, The Charm An Hung and the Viettel archive centre.

Management and teaching

Deputy general director of PC ONE JSC; five years as a BIM training specialist for the Institute, teaching public classes and corporate courses.

WHAT HE TEACHES

The parts he goes deepest on

  • Building MEP systems in Revit — electrical, plumbing and HVAC the way grade-1 projects actually model them.
  • Coordinating MEP with architecture and structure — a BIM coordinator’s core trade across 15 projects: where clashes occur and how to resolve them.
  • Models that can be installed — the site supervisor’s eye: erection clearances, installation sequence, openings and penetrations.
  • Running MEP BIM inside a company — organising models, drawings and people the way a BIM manager runs a project.

CERTIFICATES

Professional certificates

  • Revit certificate — Institute of Construction Investment Management (IICM), Hanoi University of Civil Engineering.
  • BIM Coordinator certificate — Vietnam Engineering Consultant Association (VECAS).
  • BIM Manager certificate — Vietnam Engineering Consultant Association (VECAS).

EDUCATION

Education and expertise

An automation background: he reads building services from the equipment and controls side before the building side.

  • Engineering degree in Automation — Hanoi University of Science and Technology
  • Master’s degree in Control and Automation Engineering — Hanoi University of Science and Technology
  • Over 10 years in construction — from power-plant and high-rise site supervision to BIM project management
