About this course
Midas Civil is the bridge analysis package most Vietnamese transport consultancies rely on. This course goes beyond software commands: you follow the complete workflow of a technical bridge design dossier, from sizing the structure against codes and clearance data to printing analysis results.
Classes are taught by engineers who design real bridges in Vietnam, using data from approved projects. Final-year students preparing a graduation thesis and young consultants both get up to speed quickly.
What you will learn
- Size a bridge from controlling data such as water levels and navigation clearance
- Select the right design codes and understand where each applies
- Build a continuous girder bridge model in Midas Civil from a real project
- Define loads, build combinations and interpret analysis results
- Verify girder cross-sections where the software offers no automated check
- Reuse model forces to design piers, abutments and pile foundations
Who should enrol
- Final-year bridge engineering students preparing their thesis
- Design engineers at transport consultancies adopting Midas Civil
- Site and supervision engineers who need to read bridge calculation reports
Detailed syllabus
1. Bridge design basics and Midas Civil
- The transport sector today and the role of a young bridge engineer
- Choosing overall bridge dimensions from codes and controlling data
- Drawing list of a technical design dossier and professional presentation
2. Configuration, materials and codes
- Construction methods and make-up of the bridge types studied
- Design code system: loads, navigation clearance, ground acceleration, temperature
- Calculation sequence of a complete bridge design dossier
3. Building the analysis model
- Modelling a real approved bridge project in Midas Civil
- Controlling the structural scheme, boundary conditions and staged behaviour
4. Loads and combinations
- Defining all load types acting on the bridge
- Building code-based combinations and tracking governing cases
5. Results and accessories
- Extracting and printing forces and deflections for the dossier
- Selecting bearings and expansion joints from the results
6. Verification and extended design
- Cross-section verification not automated by the software
- Transferring model forces into self-built pier and abutment calculations
- Pile foundation design using dedicated tools
7. Final assignment
- A graded homework project reviewed by the instructor to complete the course
Learning format
An in-person evening class in Hanoi over 12 sessions, taught on real project data. The instructors are practising bridge designers who review each student's work individually.
