A drawing set that prints well is not necessarily right: the rebar schedule may count a bar twice, the drawing list may miss a sheet, and the file you hand over may carry paths to someone else's computer.
A Revit model checklist before issue is one ordered pass through eight groups: model, reinforcement, views and sheets, lineweights and text, file clean-up, teamwork, exported files, and sign-off. This article walks fifteen steps on the sample structural model in Revit 2027, each with a built-in tool and a measured number. What a Revit model checklist covers
The order runs from the inside out: fix the model first, then the drawings, and export last.

Before you start
Work on a copy of the issue file so the clean-up steps never touch a file someone is editing. Split the work between two people: the modeller checks groups 1 to 4, a second person checks groups 5 to 7, because authors tend to overlook their own mistakes.
The checklist does not replace engineering review: it makes sure the model is clean and the set is consistent, while structural adequacy stays with the designer. This article is part of the Institute's Revit Structure series.
Review Warnings and schedules: model and reinforcement
Step 1 — Open Review Warnings and read the count
On the Manage tab, Inquiry panel, click Warnings. The dialog is modeless; Autodesk describes the command on the Review Warning Messages page.
The sample model has 98 warnings in seven branches. Click Show and Revit opens a view containing the element. Severity levels are covered in the article Revit running slow.
Step 2 — Export the list and check the two rebar branches
Click Export and save the HTML file. Counted by row, the sample model has:

Pass: both rebar branches at zero. Use the HTML file to hand out fixes.
Step 3 — Find stray elements with Zoom to Fit
Open the default 3D view, turn off any Section Box, then type ZF.
If the building shrinks to a dot, something sits far away. The sample model fills the frame: pass.
Step 4 — Build a schedule to find empty parameters
Go to View › Schedules › Schedule/Quantities and pick Structural Columns. Add Family and Type, Column Location Mark, Base Level, Mark, Top Level, Top Offset; on Sorting/Grouping sort by Mark so blank rows float to the top.
The schedule lists 30 columns, 2 without a Mark. Two 4F columns use Top Level 4F plus a 650 Top Offset, so their height does not follow the roof level. The schedule also explains the 28 duplicate Mark warnings: two identical columns both marked C1.1 is a drawing convention; fix only when different elements share a number.
Step 5 — Check concrete cover in Cover Settings
On the Concrete tab, Settings panel, click Cover Settings.
The sample project's convention: slabs 15 to 20 mm, columns and beams 30 to 40 mm, foundations 40 to 50 mm. Rebar Cover 1 at 25 mm fits none of them; select each element group and read its Rebar Cover rows in Properties to make sure nothing uses it.
Step 6 — Check bar length rounding
On the same panel click Reinforcement Settings and open Reinforcement rounding.
Pass when Use reinforcement rounding is ticked and Bar length and Bar segment length use Nearest with a 10 mm increment. Without it the schedule prints odd lengths. Setup is covered in rebar settings in Revit.
Step 7 — Build a rebar schedule grouped by Partition
Create a Structural Rebar schedule with Partition, Rebar Number, Bar Diameter, Quantity; sort by Partition then Rebar Number and clear Itemize every instance.
Pass when no blank Partition row sits at the top and totals match a hand check. A group with double the expected quantity points to duplicated bars. The printable rebar schedule is in rebar schedules in Revit.
Sheet List, View List and text: views and sheets
Step 8 — Audit View Templates with a View List
View › Schedules › View List. Add Family, View Name, View Template, Sheet Number; sort by View Template.
The total reads 109 views, 40 with View Template set to None, so sheets may differ in lineweight and visibility. Pass when views of the same kind share one template.
Step 9 — Find leftover views with not on sheets
View › User Interface › Browser Organization, Views tab, tick the not on sheets scheme and click OK.
14 views sit on no sheet, including two drafts ending in Copy 1 and two unnamed views Detail 7 and Detail 13. Delete the drafts, then switch back to the usual scheme.
Step 10 — Compare the Sheet List with the sheet count and check diacritics
Open the drawing list under Schedules.
The list reads Tổng số: 30 and the Sheets branch holds 30 sheets: a match. Sheets KC-04.1 and KC-04.2 share the name KẾT CẤU THANG 2F-3F and should be renamed. Check Vietnamese diacritics here too: some fonts show the letter Ủ as an equals sign. Purge Unused, links and Audit: clean-up
Step 11 — Open Purge Unused and read the numbers first
Manage › Settings › Purge Unused.
The sample model has 359 unused items plus 6 imported categories to purge. Untick types you want to keep before OK, and repeat until nothing is left.
Step 12 — Review Manage Links
Manage › Manage Project › Manage Links. The 2027 dialog puts every link in one list filtered by Type.
The model holds 2 DWGs, 3 PDFs and 169 imported images. One title block DWG is Not loaded with a count of 0: remove it. The three PDFs are imports whose paths are Absolute to a personal folder on another computer; the pass mark is relative paths inside the project folder. The images are bar shape pictures generated by an add-in, the first place to look when a file is unexpectedly heavy.
Step 13 — Open the copy with Audit
Press Ctrl+O to open the Open dialog, pick the copy and tick Audit at the bottom left.
Revit shows Audit Warning; click OK, then Open. The file of about 62 MB, saved in an older release, opened with Audit and upgrade in about two minutes. Afterwards Warnings still lists 98 warnings: Audit repairs the file structure, not the warnings.
Interference Check, teamwork and exported files
Step 14 — Check teamwork and run Interference Check
Open the Collaborate tab. In a workshared file everyone runs Synchronize with Central and Relinquish All Mine, and the Worksets dialog must show empty Owner and Borrowers columns; see central and local files.
The sample copy is not workshared, so Synchronize is greyed and only clash checking remains. Click Interference Check › Run Interference Check.
Beams against floors and columns return No Interference detected!. Structural Rebar is not in the list. To check against the MEP model, switch Categories from to the linked file.
Step 15 — Compare the print set with the drawing list
File › Export › PDF, choose Selected views/sheets and click the pencil next to the set name.
Select Views/Sheets reads Selected: 30, equal to the rows in the drawing list. The Print order column and Edit print order button set the page order by sheet number. After exporting, count PDF pages and check orientation; for DWG check units, layer names and diacritics. Export settings are in exporting Revit drawings to CAD, IFC in exporting IFC from Revit.

Frequently asked questions
Must every warning be cleared before issue?
No. Warnings that corrupt quantities, such as identical rebar or rebar outside its host, must reach zero; record a reason for keeping the rest.
How do Purge Unused and Audit differ?
Purge Unused deletes unused types, families and views. Audit scans and repairs the file structure while opening, without deleting your content.
Is a duplicate Mark an error?
It depends. Two identical columns both marked C1.1 is intentional; two different elements with one number is an error.
Does a non-workshared file need the teamwork group?
Yes, but only links and clashes. Syncing and relinquishing apply to central files.
Does this checklist work for architectural models?
