Revit's built-in renderer gives correct materials but is slow, and it does not let you walk through the model. That is why most architectural offices pair Revit with a dedicated renderer. In Vietnam the most common pairing is Lumion Revit through LiveSync, followed by Enscape, Twinmotion, D5 and V-Ray.
This article compares those five options on Revit 2027: which plugin runs inside Revit, which is only a bridge, and which already supports 2027. It also covers legal student use, VR and the graphics card you need. Two kinds of render plugin: inside Revit or a bridge to a separate program
The first kind runs inside the Revit window. Enscape and V-Ray work this way: after installation new tools appear on the ribbon, and a preview window opens next to the model.
The second kind is a bridge. The plugin in Revit only sends the model to a separate program, where materials, trees, lighting and output are handled. Lumion (through LiveSync), Twinmotion (through Direct Link) and D5 Render (through D5 Sync) work this way. The model still belongs to Revit: change a wall in Revit and the other side updates, but trees, people and cars placed there do not come back to Revit.
Choose by how you work. If you model and review at the same time, a plugin inside Revit suits you. If you need landscaping, animation and large asset libraries, a bridge suits you better.

Lumion Revit: using Lumion LiveSync for Revit
For Lumion, the bridge is the Lumion LiveSync for Revit plugin, free from Autodesk's app store. According to the plugin page, the current version runs on Revit 2021 to 2027 and needs Lumion 8.5 or later; Lumion itself still needs its own licence (Autodesk Marketplace: Lumion LiveSync).
The workflow has four steps:
- Install Lumion, then the LiveSync plugin for your Revit year.
- Open Revit and a 3D view with the camera set and unwanted elements hidden.
- On the Add-Ins tab, start LiveSync. Lumion opens and receives the model.
- Edit in Revit and the model in Lumion follows; assign materials, trees and people in Lumion.
If you want a one-off transfer instead of live sync, take the revit to lumion route by file: export from Revit and import into Lumion. This suits a finished model on a modest machine, because you do not run both programs at once.
Lumion's student licence is free for one year, renewable, verified through SheerID and for learning only (Lumion for students). The page does not say clearly whether students in Vietnam are accepted; follow the page's instructions and wait for the verification result.
Twinmotion for Revit: a built-in button in Revit 2027
Twinmotion is the closest to Revit in terms of setup, because its button already sits on the View tab.
According to the Revit 2027 help, you first install Twinmotion for Revit from your Autodesk account; then click Twinmotion on the Presentation panel, open the model in Twinmotion and use Direct Link to sync edits. A one-off export to a Datasmith file is also possible (Autodesk: Twinmotion in Revit 2027).
Autodesk lists several known issues with Twinmotion in Revit 2027. Two common ones: a file name with special characters breaks Direct Link, and Revit reports Twinmotion as not installed if the user has never opened Twinmotion (Autodesk: Known Issues 2027). With Vietnamese file names, renaming to plain letters before syncing is the safe choice.
Enscape and V-Ray: rendering inside Revit
Enscape runs inside Revit and shows changes almost instantly. According to Chaos's system requirements, Enscape supports Revit 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027, does not run on Revit LT, and requires a dedicated graphics card; Intel integrated graphics will not run it (Chaos: Enscape system requirements).
V-Ray also runs inside Revit and is strong on high-quality stills and detailed lighting control. At the end of September 2026, Chaos's system requirements page listed Revit 2022 to 2026 only (Chaos: V-Ray for Revit system requirements). Anyone already on Revit 2027 should check that page again before buying or installing.
D5 Render: D5 Sync for Revit
D5 Render is a bridge: the D5 Sync plugin in Revit sends the model to D5. D5's release notes say that version 0.5.0.0003 of 30 June 2026 supports Revit 2027 (D5: D5 Sync for Revit updates). D5 has a free Community edition and a free Education edition for students and educators (D5: download). D5 runs only on Windows and needs a ray-tracing graphics card (D5: system requirements).
VR and the graphics card you need
VR has two meanings that often get mixed up. The first is putting on a headset and walking through the model in real time. Enscape does this through its VR headset button (Chaos: VR in Enscape); Twinmotion does it on Windows through OpenXR (Epic: VR in Twinmotion); D5's VR is still in beta. The second meaning is exporting 360-degree panoramas to view on a headset or phone; Lumion and V-Ray work this way.
All five rely on a dedicated graphics card. The minimum each vendor states:

An office laptop with integrated graphics runs Revit well enough for learning, but hardly runs any of these plugins.
Preparing the Revit model before syncing
A plugin only looks good with a clean model. Four things are worth doing first.
Assign correct materials to each wall, floor and roof layer in Revit, because most plugins read Revit materials before letting you replace them; see rendering in Revit.
Create a dedicated 3D view for syncing, hiding secondary lines, grids and elements that do not need presenting; camera setup is in perspectives in Revit.
Clean up a heavy model before sending it, because the plugin reloads all geometry on every sync; see heavy Revit models.
Use file names without accents or special characters, to avoid sync errors such as the one Autodesk records for Twinmotion.

Which revit render plugin is easiest to start with?
Twinmotion, because its button is already in Revit 2027 and it is free for students according to Epic. If you want to review inside Revit, choose Enscape.
Does Lumion work with Revit 2027?
Yes. The current LiveSync plugin supports Revit 2021 to 2027, with Lumion 8.5 or later.
Is Twinmotion free?
According to Epic's licence page, Twinmotion is free for students, educators, non-commercial individual users, and companies with under one million US dollars of annual revenue; above that a yearly licence is needed. Terms can change, so read that page again before using it on a project.
Is Revit's built-in renderer still worth using?
Yes, for quick material checks and for office machines without a strong graphics card. It runs on the processor, needs no extra installation, and gives correct light and material for single stills. It becomes impractical when you need many views, animation or a walk-through.
Can I keep using the same plugin when my office moves to a new Revit release?
Only when the vendor has released a version for that Revit year. Check the vendor's system requirements page before upgrading Revit on project machines; plugin support usually arrives a few weeks to a few months after a new Revit release.
Should I use an unofficial copy to save money?
