Search for where to learn construction software in Hanoi and you will find dozens of centres, every one of them promising experienced teachers, a job straight after the course and a guaranteed outcome. Very few publish a fee, and almost none tell you how to check any of it.
This article does that: seven tests for judging a training provider, and five questions that compress those seven tests into a five-minute phone call.
To be straight with you first: the writer directs a training institute, so you are entitled to be sceptical. That is why the seven tests below are written as questions for you to ask — of other places, and of the Institute's own courses too.
Why choosing badly costs twice
A construction software course in Hanoi typically costs from under a million dong for a short online course to four or five million for a longer classroom course. That is not the large number. The large number is time: a course of 5 to 15 sessions plus practice is about two months of your life.
Choose badly and you lose more than those two months. You usually acquire a set of wrong habits: drawing lines instead of modelling objects in Revit, measuring quantities outside the current measurement rules, building a structural model without knowing how to check the result. Then you take those habits to an interview.
Afterwards you learn again somewhere else, this time having to unlearn as well as learn. That is why teachers say the second time costs twice as much, not one and a half times.
Seven tests for a construction software training provider
1. Is the teacher working on real projects? This is the most important test and the easiest to run. Construction software is not a theory subject. Someone who teaches Revit well is modelling real projects, because only then do they know which mistakes recur and what standard firms are asking for. Someone teaching cost estimating must be preparing real submissions, because norms and unit rates change constantly.
2. Real project files, or a textbook exercise? A Revit course that models the sample house shipped with the software is a long way from one that rebuilds a completed building from its real drawings. Real files carry real trouble: architectural and structural drawings that disagree, components missing from the library, no norm code that fits. That trouble is exactly what you meet at work.
3. Class size, and who marks your work. Software is a manual skill; when you go wrong, someone has to catch it there and then. In a class of thirty or forty with one teacher you spend most of the time watching a projector and nobody sees your mistakes. A good class is 10 to 20 people, with assistants moving between machines and homework genuinely marked.
4. Who issues the certificate. A certificate does not replace ability, but it is the first thing a recruiter sees. One carrying a university's name is recognised immediately; one from an unknown centre has to be explained. Which BIM certificates carry weight in Vietnam goes through each type.
5. Repeating the course, and support afterwards. Nobody masters this in one pass. A good provider lets you sit the course again later and keeps a channel open for when you hit a real problem at work. This test separates places that treat you as a one-off customer from places that expect you back.
6. Are materials current with the rules and the software? Two things move fast here: the regulations and the software releases. Cost estimating material still using old norms has not been updated. BIM material that never mentions Decree 217/2026/ND-CP is in the same position: from 1 July 2026 it makes BIM mandatory on new works of grade II and above, and the timetable is changing how firms recruit.
7. Is the fee published, and are there hidden items? A serious provider states the fee, the number of sessions and the length of each on its website. A place that asks you to message for a price usually charges by the customer. Ask whether the fee includes materials, practice software and the certificate.
Private centres and university units
To be fair, each has its strengths.

Worth saying plainly: belonging to a university does not by itself mean good teaching. Some university-branded units subcontract the teaching out to people with no connection to the university. Whichever side you choose, the seven tests above are what to check; the university name is only a starting point.
Five questions to ask before paying
You do not need to know the right answer. You only need to see whether the answer is specific, because vagueness is itself an answer.
- Who teaches this class, and what project are they working on?
- Whose building do the exercises use?
- How many people were in the last class, are there assistants, is homework marked?
- Who signs the certificate, and is repeating the course free?
- Which circular do the cost classes follow, and which Revit release do you teach?
A place that answers all five specifically is worth attending, whether private or part of a university. These five are also the quickest way to settle where to learn construction software without reading through dozens of pages of advertising.
On promises of guaranteed employment, read the conditions. Most carry very narrow ones: full attendance, a pass mark, and accepting any position offered.
Online or in a classroom
This question matters as much as where, because it decides whether you finish the course at all.
Cost estimating, MS Project and drawing reading work very well online, because most of the time is spent on tables and documents. Revit and the structural analysis packages are better learned in a room at least the first time, since a wrong click has to be seen on your screen to be corrected. If you live far away, ask three things: does the online class have live interaction with the teacher, is it recorded, and is homework marked individually.
Which software to learn first
Many people ask where to learn before they know what to learn, which is the wrong order.
Someone new to the industry should start with reading drawings, then AutoCAD, then the specialist software for their chosen direction. What is a reasonable fee?
In Hanoi, a course of 5 to 15 sessions commonly runs from under a million to four or five million dong, depending on whether it is online or in a classroom and on its length. Should a student use a centre or teach themselves?
